Breakthrough

Working in Healthcare can provide a myriad of unconventional opportunities, but when I was approached with the opportunity to design an event poster and mock book cover for an event center around Charles Graeber and his incredible nonfiction bestseller, “The Breakthrough: Immunotherapy and the Race to Cure Cancer”, I accepted the challenge with the creative fervor only a fan can channel. Graeber’s book encapsulates not only the troubled history of cancer treatment, but outlines the fascinating and rapidly-expanding field of immunotherapy. Tasked with adequately summing up this journey in the space allotted by a twelve-by-eighteen inch poster, I opted for a modern monoline illustrative style, combining elements of stark iconography with whimsical mechanical elements. My final designs were printed in two color palettes: a bright “medical white” design, and a deep blue-and-gold “innovation” alternative, and were given out to the attendees with the opportunity to have the poster signed by Charles Graeber following the event.
